CB550F 77 Carb Hoses
« on: July 31, 2019, 06:26:57 AM »
All,

I’ve got my carbs back together for my 77 CB550F.  Still a long ways from being done.  I’m working on getting them back on the rack.  My question is about the hoses.  The small 1 ~ 1.5 inch hose between 1-2 and 3-4 is a thin walled hose, but all the OEM “hose by the foot” look to be a thicker wall.  Are all the hose thicknesses the same or are the small thin walled hose a unique part number and need to be ordered already cut?  Also the drain hoses, same as fuel line or another hose size?

Thanks
Ace

BTW my carb leaf springs look rough, are they really $15 apiece or does anyone know of a better deal?

If you are speaking of the vent system couplers, the stock hose 3-3.5 mm.  These require fuel resistant hose as the fuel vapors can dissolve standard vacuum hose.
Vent hoses to swing arm pivot are also 3-3.5mm.
Bowl drain hoses are also 3-3.5 mm.
Fuel supply hoses are 5-5.5mm.

Wall thickness is a non issue.  Except for getting tight bend radii without "kinking".

Don't forget the spring perch shaft when assembling 2-3 on the rack.

There is a seller on ebay in the Netherlands who has tooled up to make the leaf retainers. I think his user name is gerben1956 but not 100% sure. I know it cost him a lot to get the tooling to make them so they are not cheap , but they were not even when available from Honda
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

TwoTired, I did remember the shaft. Unfortunately it was after they where racked and I was trying to figure out where the other end of the spring went. I didn’t have a shaft left over and all my pictures hid the shaft area.

But she’s back together and sitting on the bike now. Thx for trying to warn me.
