Cb550 can chain adjuster oil leak
« on: August 30, 2019, 09:41:34 AM »
Oil is seeping out of cam chain tensioner adjuster. I see on parts catalog that there’s an O ring there. Anyone replaced, would like to know size. (Does it have to an OEM or any correct size will do)

Thanks

I just replaced one with a Viton o-ring from the multi pack set that Harbor Freight sells. Sorry, I don't remember the size. I just use the old O ring and found the closest match. Gently pushed it in snug, reinstalled the nut and washer and adjusted the cam chain. No more leaks.

I was thinking of replacing O ring while it is there. It seems you replaced when engine was apart or cam chain was out ?

Why not just put any O-ring under the washer? I mean you always run the engine with the lock nut tightened, don't you?

I just removed the locknut and washer, fished out the damaged O-ring with a pick tool and pushed in a new one. Reinstall washer and locknut, adjust cam chain. Engine was fully assembled.
