1978 cb750f carburetors
« on: September 04, 2019, 07:14:21 AM »
First of all, new here, but have enjoyed creepily reading through old posts and info.

Just pulled a cb750f out of a junk yard. Starting my first full restoration build.

The question I have for this wonderful well of information is regarding keihin cr carbs vs the stock carbs on the 1978 cb750f model.

The carbs the bike came with are pretty heavily corroded, both inside and out. Needed a pretty decent amount of penetrating oil just to get it apart. Not unsalvageable tho, just need to be hardcore cleaned. I want to buy a new set of cr carbs since they are pretty and based on what I have read perform awesome.

Does anyone have any experience or input regarding cr carbs on a 1978 cb750f model? specifically, how does it effect smoothness, performance, idleing, etc.  Im sending my engine into Hondaman to have it bored out, if that is important.

Thanks in advance! Any input will be appreciated and cherished, probably.

Is the engine salvageable or have you taken a peek inside yet ? Some of those junk yard dogs may not be worth the hassle or expense.

A fair number of members here have used CR's on their performance builds (there is a board for high performance and racing mods), and there is no reason to think that there should be an issue using them on your F3 if you want to. Mark (Hondaman) should be able to offer some advice on setup as can Mike Rieck, who, along with Mark, is one of the acknowledged engine performance gurus here.

Once you know what mods you plan to your engine there are lots of knowledgeable members that can help with setup of whatever carbs you opt to go with.
