CB750 Early clutch disc questions
« on: October 24, 2019, 09:08:03 AM »
Let an old buddy do a burnout on my modified '70 CB750K  (not sure what I was thinking)   But now, I need a new tire and some new friction discs. ::)

I'm finding part number 22201-MA7-000    What I can't seem to find is:  how many friction discs do I need?  7 or 8?   It's now an 836 with some old RC Eng. parts in it so it has pretty good power.  The clutch let loose on the second burnout - he didn't wet the tire and the tire grabbed and didn't cut loose before the clutch did.

On a related note, had anybody tried one of the new CycleX 4 friction clutch systems ?     http://www.cyclexchange.net/Engine%20Parts%20Clutches.htm

I tend to lean toward genuine Honda parts, but the CycleX clutch has me intrigued.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

I have the cyclex 4 plate in one of my 69 750's (my avitar bike) and it works great!

It looks like you're wringing your hands and saying "come on man you said just one burn out."

Clutch needs stronger springs.
I have Barnett springs for CB500 in my K6. They have washers under to make it even stiffer. Those washers were part of another heavy duty kit of 8 discs bike got in rhe 80's. Early CB750 -69 had those washers too.

Now EBC discs and billet pressure plate. The engine has 1005 cc and give much more torque than when it had  836.

With 836 it gave 80-83 whp on dyno. No problem to use Cruzinimage cheap clutch and Barnett CB750 springs.

The clutch discs from PartsNmore work well, just be sure to get the ones that are 0.138"-0.240" thick and not the thinner ones.
Honda #22201-300-000 / 22201-371-000, 6 or 7 required. The earliest K0 clutches had an extra-thick steel base plate, almost 2x as thick as the others: in those clutches you need 6 plates, or can fit 7 if you also change the thick steel one to the normal steel one instead.
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.
