KAWASAKI Z1000H fuel injection
« on: December 16, 2019, 11:00:51 AM »
Just bought on of those.

Well, came with a Vetter Windjammer, just ignore that.

Had they been sold in USA?

Doc, I love a motorcycle!

Congrats Sgt, looks good [except fairing]

I dont believe these were in the U.S.

"The 1980 Kawasaki Z1000H was Kawasaki's first fuel injected motorcycle and based on the KZ1000A3/A4 Mk.ii frame and body work. There were only 1000 examples of the Z1000H made for the global market - these models were manufactured during the months of March and April 1980. In the US market, the Z1000G "Z-1 Classic", based on the LTD frame and body work, also featured the same fuel injection system used on the Z1000H."

careful when you're giving it a clean up, from memory the later gpz11 fuel injected bikes didn't have particularly good waterproofing on the ecu and giving them a good power wash usually resulted in a conversion back to carbs when the ecu filled up with water and died, there were bugger all ecu's available new back when they were current, can't imagine there's a whole lot around now

otherwise, well done getting a  nice condition rare bike

Thanks for hint and info.

Actually, I have a GPZ1100B2 and I´m very happy with her. Best old Z I ever had or actually have.
That H is expected to run as a MK2 and as smooth as the GPZ with the fuel injection.

Hope I will end with something like that until next summer:

I had one, was a great bike.  Toured the U.S one summer, 13 states in 31 days and 7000 miles.

We didn´t have that Z-1 classic version (G-model). Cool bike BTW.

Anyhow, that H engine has a GE number.

So they shared the same engine cases at least. How much hp did those Z-1 classic had? H has 97hp.

Only 76 horsepower, but still fairly fast for back then. More of a cruiser...

The closest thing was the Z1000G Z1 Classic, which was a late 70's 'custom' style with chromed engine covers and tank sides. My best friend's dad bought one new and my buddy had it until 5 or 6 years ago. This is just an internet photo, but they were all the same.

We got them here in Oz, and from memory, the injection was problematical, most ended up with carbs. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Agree, much converted. I assume an igniter DFI box failure is the end.

The one I´ve got has 73 tsd. km on the clock and still the DFI.

This one got my interest.  I am just completing a project of stripping and modifying a fuel injected Voyager 1300 6 cylinder.  Hopefully, the 36 year old DFI has some life left.  Seems to run well so far...

I have a 1980 KZ1000P but it wasn't a police model. It looks more like an LTD, I'd love to convert it to the GPZ style.  I also traded a dragster torque converter for an 82 1100 shaftie. I've heard it run but has no papers. There's a $300 parts bike with papers 8 hours from here but I'm hoping for a shorter trip.

Looks good mate, what pipe is that? I presume it’s an aftermarket system? (Looks too good to be original) ;D

That’s a NOS MKII system, same for H/Fi.

Wasn’t cheap.

Wow, where do you find NOS parts like that mate? You probably paid more for that pipe than I paid for my last bike! ;D

Found them here in Germany with the help of a friend.

Restoring a MKII or a Fi is time consuming and expensive. You can´t just order parts and get them in 3 days as for a CB750four. For specific parts you have to be patient and somehow have to beg for them.

Was even harder to find the correct mirrors.  Finally found them in Japan. With shipping, VAT and customs duty around € 500

Bloody hell! Well I hope you’re going to keep it for a long time to get your money back, or is that model really valuable now? ;D
