New 550 Owner
« on: February 06, 2007, 09:41:10 AM »
Hey guys,
I've always loved the style, and purchased a 1976 CB550 that was not running, but was not locked up.  Now, 6 months and a little money later I have a running 550.  That was yesterday, and the feeling was beyond description.  To work for so long on a bike that you have never seen running, then get to feel the engine start for the first time... sweet.
I've replaced the whole ignition system from the battery to the plugs, and have a whole lot more work to do.  I have already done quite a bit of carb work, but it seems my #1 carb is still dumping fuel.  The float looked fine when it was off, but I must have missed something.  Any suggestions?

I will take pics soon.  She may not be as easy on the eyes as some of these other bikes, but she's my first... so she looks great to me.

Great times, looking forward to getting to know the community.

Ben

Welcome Ben! Love the rice.  ;)

You probably just have a little speck of dirt on the float needle. Doesn't take much to make it stick.

Welcome, Uncle Ben.  Congrats on getting her running.  It wasn't long ago that I was psyched to finally sort out the major issues in my bike.

Welcome. Check for a hairline crack in the #1 floatbowl overflow tube.

Welcome mate

I'm new to the group too - building a modernised bobber from a '76 550.

Lots of great info to be had on here.

Keep riding and well done on getting the bike going.

I've noticed the competition between the F and K models, I think it's great.
I wish I was in a part of the country that had more local SOHC riders.

You might be surprised.  I spotted an SOHC rider during my last ride (January 3) in upstate NY.  He clued me into the bar where some other vintage bikers meet.

Welcome ;D

From a fellow 550K owner, mines a '78 vintage though, the best year ;)

Welcome!
Yeah, the feeling is indescribable when you fire one of these up after they`ve been pushed into a corner to rot away somewhere for years. It`s almost like saving a dog from pound and he becomes your best friend ;D

The 550K models were from `74-`78 and the 550F from `75-`77 ;)

Thank's einyodeler ;D I've just forwarded his thread to my wife, and place special emphasis on your post 8)

For many years she has struggled to comprehend why I have this wierd obsession with spending relative fortunes ressurrecting vehicles that are supposedly beyond salvation, and will never be worth the time and money I invest in them ::)

Your description is the most accurate summation of why I do what I do that I've ever come across ;D
