That Triumph is niiiiiiiice. I have a soft spot for new triumphs though dad's had two Sprint ST's and Mum had a bonneville at one point.

Mum also had a Hornet 600 which looked remarkably similar to that 919 ( is it the same as the Hornet 900??) Anyway Mum LOVED the Hornet it was a GREAT bike.

I'm personally not a HD fan and if you were looking for the babe magnet - I for one would be more magnetised by the Honda - however it depends on the situation. I can't say I didn't enjoy going for a tour on a HD roadking in Australia last year. I don't think the same trip on a Honda would have been quite the same - but that was only because the HD was a new experience for me.

I still see myself buying a Ducati Monster for my daily rider.
The Honda 919 is cool - but not as cool as a Monster..

everyones definition of cool is different!  The 80s magna is cool to me. I am not much of a monster lover.

Babe magnets, eh?

When I brought my wife to check out the '78 SR 500 I wanted to buy, she said 'oooh, that's a motorcycle' as we approached.  We bought it.

When I brought her to a buddy who re-cycles bikes, to look for one for her, she looked at the '78 750K and said 'you should buy it'.  That's been my daily commuting bike ever since.

When I showed her the '75 Triumph project we have in in Glorieta, her eyes went wide.

All I know is, those are the bikes getting attention from the babe I'm interested in!

(Of course, then she goes out and buys a 600cc Shadow!  Harley imitation maybe, but at least it's better made.)

Motorcycle Consumer news did a comparison of an original Bonneville, a new Bonneville, and a Kawasaki W650- The "W" came out on top on almost all counts (I think the original beat the others on looks or something.)
There is an '00 W with 2700 miles asking $4800 on www.bradsbikes.net right now.   I've had several different types and brands, and I have to say I think this is the best all 'round bike I've ever had.
Of course I made some minor changes...
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

The 600 ("Hornet" over here) has just been revamped to fight against newer designs by Yamaha (FZ1, FZ6) and Suzuki (GSR). 919 remains unchanged

The 919 is a nice bike. I sat on one a couple of times. The rider position is just about perfect. At the Honda dealership that I go to, most of the mechanics ride a 919. I guess that says something about the bike. Then again the other local Honda dealership doesn't carry the 919 because in the salesman's words, "No one is buying them". If it were me, I'd take a serious look at the FZ1 of the Triumph Speed Triple. Or for a little more cash, a Ducati Monster S4RS or BMW R1200S.  ;D

The new style 599/Hornet '07, is not being sold in the US. This is what I was told  by every dealer in IL/WI. I also have read this in CW. It was introduced to the European/Asian market only.  Either way, the S3 is in a totally different class. I would NOT give it up for ANY other bike........... ;)

The 919 is a great looking bike...in my opinion. I came close to getting one
instead on the CBR and I may still get one.  For cruising, it would be much
better....and I love the open appearance.

Might be different then the 599 model you are thinking of though.

I didn't know anything about the 599 models myself. After reading the discussion here, I went to the Honda site and found the 06' offered but no mention of the 07'.

Here you go, twin shock vs monoshock, and seventies's versus noughties tanks.

I would definitely take the 07 over the 06, as I really hate the look
of the huge canister under the seat.

Personally, I would probably go for the 919 over the Harley, as
I find the HD's to be too heavy for me around town.

Maybe it is odd, but I like the 06 better. But then I am known to have to have good taste, I do ride a 78k after all! The rest of you have taste that comes from the rear of a cow! ;D

Come on guys, forget the Harleys...  ;)
Personally, if I was to buy a new(er) bike, I wouldn´t go for any of the bikes mentioned yet.
I would definately go for a Kwak Z1000, in green of course  8)
Great looks, great engine = great bike.
My 50 cents.

Yeah, the -07 is a step back in my opinion.
But hey, a little used -06 or earlier is cheaper, and if you want a new one you can prolly find a leftover bike at your local dealer at good price...
Spend the difference on some decent tires and Muzzy exhausts....  8)
