550 K1 - 2way fuel petcock
« on: March 27, 2020, 09:13:58 AM »
Since beginning I have this bike I have issue with petcock
1. original 2-way leaks... despite I tried to clean it, it does not help. I suspect problem comes from "worn"  plastic cone (or hardened). This is impossible to find as spare...
2. Aftermaket 2-way one from 4into1 - I ordered one, it leaked, claim it back, got replacement, but it is leaking too...
3. Honda OEM 1-way (16950-341-671 https://www.cmsnl.com/products/cockfuelcb750k5_16950341671/#.Xn5G4IhKiMo) - this does not leak, but issue is to have proper split 1to2 fuel lines under tank, there is very limited space. I don't like it. I tried to replace cone from new 1-way into 2-way but it leaks again (probably bit different shape or worn body of old 2-way petcock).
4. New OEM 2-way - some available at ebay, but sky high prices :(

Does anyone have idea where to find just plastic cone to be used inside OEM petcock?
Or, other alternative (2-way) that does not leak?

If this is the type that screws onto a threaded bung on the tank seperate internal parts have never been available.

Maybe, I don't understand, but there is the strainer set: 16952-341-671
and even the O-ring: 16997-467-000.

+1.  Cheap ass parts end up costing more in the long run as they will need to be replaced.

This type seals in an odd way with the conical plastic turning part against the alloy conical hole in the body. I have a single outlet one (everything is dual outlet except the body is not drilled for the second nipple).  I had a drip, and used fine valve lapping compound then twisted the cone in the hole followed by rouge powder in oil. Stopped the dripping. The spring washer under the lever retainer is vital, there needs to be some force on the cone to push it in and seal: the spring can kinda flatten out and lose tension, gentle bending into a deeper S-curve with needlenose pliers will get more tension. I also used some O-ring lube to make it smoother turning and to add to the sealing.

That is exactly my plan as next - lapping compound.
But now, all shops nearby are closed, so need to wait
