Buttons or clips

Am slowly getting this engine back together and taking advantage during this self isolation period. I seem to have misplaced a couple of wrist pin clips but I do have enough buttons. Anybody have any comments on the use of buttons instead of clips?

Clips without tag-ends are preferred............buttons have been found squished between the piston and cylinder-wall if not properly installed.

Whats the proper way of installing buttons? I assumed they just floated, sometimes slightly marking the cylinder walls.

In a racing engine you disassemble often.

I have two friends that used to race 3/4 midgets and remember their discussion about whether to use buttons or not. I finally asked a friend who is a experienced aircraft mechanic and he said yes, why not. Way easier, which I agree with. Anyway, they are installed and moving on to the next step.
