I'm envious of you "Northern" guys....
« on: February 11, 2007, 06:48:37 PM »
Living in Florida has it's benefits, but we have a dearth of metric bike
shows.  Most of the rides and shows are geared to....Harleys. Maybe
that's because, as was pointed out in another thread, all the boomers
are retiring here and buying the bike they have "always wanted" and
can now afford.

Its seems all the good metric shows are, as we say, "up North".  ;D

Nashville has a good assortment of shows from time to time.  Even have brit bikes, too!  Although I must admit, most of them still seem to be Harley-oriented (what with Appletons right around the corner and all...)

I went to the Art of the Motorcycle show and enjoyed it very much...lots of history
there.  However, the sandcast on display didn't even have mirrors...at least here it
didn't. Maybe they took them off.  I told the attendant/guard that I rode to the
show on a better one!  ;D

We have one bike ride on Thursday's in Orlando that is mainly metric bikes...a few hogs.

Aww, now I've gotta go home and look at my Art of the motorcycle book to see if it has mirrors!

It doesn't. Maybe they thought it looked cleaner/sleeker without them. :-\

We have a group of Metric bikers here in the Tampa area that ride a couple of times a month called C.O.M.A (Classic Owner's Motorcycle Association)
http://www.thisoldtractor.com/coma/index.html

Siter81 and I have gotten together and ridden a few times.
Maybe we can hook up some time.

Its fun to show up at a bike night and steal all the attention from the Harleys.

Texas is similar to Florida in the fact that everything is HD focused.

You can't sling a dead cat without hitting overpriced chrome or a Rolex Rider down here.

Just pull your inline 4 right between 'em and when they tell you to bugger off, use your kickstarter.

That always seems to make 'em jealous.

I just spent two days in Cleveland.  There's this cold white stuff called "snow" up there.  It's a pain.  They deserve a few good bike shows after months of that.  I'll put up with the v-twin crowd as long as it's 65 and sunny here.

Always wondered if more bikes were sold in the Midwest than the South back in the 60's and 70's or if they just enjoy riding and restoring them more?  It's very rare that you see a bike more than 10 years old on the streets down here.  I wonder where they all went?  Good junkyards, swap meets and parts suppliers for these bikes don't really exist...love it or hate it Ebay is about the only way to get stuff.
