Good day everyone!
First I would like to thank everyone for allowing me to become a member of the forum.
A bit about myself:
My name is Antonio I live in Wilmington Delaware, I’m originally from. Naples Italy been riding since I was about 14. I’m currently a member of the Cx500forum and a proud owner of a 1980 CX500 cafe’ racer that finally it’s 98% done after 2 years of cleaning, painting, modifying, rebuild ecc...
(Could post some pictures of the CX if you guys would like not sure if it’s allowed)
So now I m looking for the next project, this one won’t be a cafe but I want to bring a vintage bike to her original condition minus some upgrades.
I’m about to pick a 1976 Cb550 with right around 17000 original miles, pick up date should be July 20 old owner currently waiting on a new title.
Lest night I went and look at it, I wish I took some pictures but didn’t will for sure post some when she’s home with me.

About the bike:
Been stored in a garage since 1996 when was last on the road, currently not running needs a new battery and carbs rebuild I think has a stuck float because when we turned the petcock fuel started pouring out of the carbs.
Planning on:
Getting it running:
Buying a new AGM battery, rebuild the carbs, change oil, filter, air filter.
Testing the ignition system, maybe a new set of plugs.
Once running it will be time to make it road safe:
New set of tires, rebuild front and rear brakes, and make sure all light and safety equipment it’s in working condition.
Then clean and polish everything up.
Been my first cb if I’m forgetting something that I should definitely address it would be much appreciated it if you guys could point out to me.
Been doing tons of reading and researching online but if you guys could share a good place to source some of this parts it would be great!!  It’s always nice to hear actual owners that actually ride this bike review products that they have been using for years then just reviews on a website.

Thank you for the help

Welcome from NE MN,

Your list looks good.  You may want to move test ignition closer to the top though ;)

Thank you MD you are right!
I ll probably check for spark as soon as I install a new battery. Maybe a little starter fluid she may fire up for a few second

After doing some reading now I understand why MD has suggested to bring check ignition system to the top of the list.
It didn’t come to mind that this older bikes use a point ignition so must likely it will need to be cleaned and adjusted at least. I have also seen a Dynatek ignition package that looks pretty promising, anyone uses one? Any thoughts on this subject? Am using the Dynatek in my '75 CB550F.  When researching about the electronic ignition, I saw some comments about the coils in relation to the ignition.  Those discussions lead me to replace the coils and the points with matched Dynatek.  The shape of the coils are different than stock so some rearranging of some wires is required.

Have not had any ignition issues since installing in 2015.

Hey, welcome from Georgia.

Delaware is where I was born and raised. Lived in Wilmington during the late 60 and early 70's.

Left in 76, and been gone since.

Nice looking bike, btw.
If it ain't raining, I'm riding.....~~{iii}?~~prost

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

So I m still waiting for the owner of the 550 to get a replacement title.
Meanwhile I just picked up a 76 CB750 from a neighbor down the street.
He’s the first owner bought the bike brand new in 76, bike been sitting for 30 years only 5500 miles on the clock.
The majority of the time was garage stores but for the past few years it was outside under a tarp.
It’s in very nice condition.
I’m going to use the list that I prepared for the 550 for this restoration also.
I already have it a nice cleaning
New battery all electric works.
Add some MMO to the plugs hole I’m going to let it soak for a few days
New plugs
Now I need to do a oil change
Carbs need cleaning
Points need to be cleaned
Check for spark
It shifts fine
I did use the kick start only a few times to make sure that engine wasn’t it’s not seized
Once all the other stuff it’s done I ll try to start her up
Let me know what you guys think and if there is something else I should do
