What are the odds ?
« on: August 22, 2020, 11:35:50 AM »
I took my daughter to school this weekend . While out shopping for school supplies we stopped off for lunch in an ordinary looking deli in town . I walked in and this is what I saw. I guess it was meant to be.

I sold a stereo receiver this week to a guy in the next town east. When he was walking up to my garage I told him I wanted his shirt which made him give me an awkward look until he saw my bike. He works as a Honda mechanic at a car dealership and his shirt was badged up with Honda in a few places. He had a little Suzuki GT185.

It was a Marantz 1530 receiver with a spliced cord Steve. Bought it for $15.00 at a garage sale and the lady said "it ran when parked" or something like that  ;D  Made a tidy profit on it.
What model of Sansui have you got your heart set on ?

That looks good, Eric.   Dont remember what model I had but a G-5700 would be fine.

But I'm not paying $500!

Here's a Marantz 1530 for 6,000!  You sold yours too cheap...ha

If I got a good deal on a G-5700 sounds like it would be a keeper maybe. Has some nice cool features, big power and a sexy look !  If I see one around though seriously I will give you a shout, always looking for old Hi-Fi when it crosses my path.

I've got a Sansui 5000A that was the shop system for years, and a Pioneer SX 1300 that I got at a yard sale for $35 at home.

yes, and try the deoxit on those switches. I get my vintage stereo info from audiokarma whose experts on there swear by deoxit, and it has worked for me. Also, that site has good info for repairs and troubleshooting.
Those two beatles albums in the frames I purchased brand new around 1980 and are unopened. They are not first issue, so value isn't that great. If your Abbey Road and peppers are first issue......better keep'em...

I have a friend at the local salvation army keeping an eye out for an older stereo tuner. My old pioneer sx650 ?disappeared at a repair shop a few decades ago.
I have a quadrophonic 8 track tuner/tape deck in the garage, it came out of a 6' long cabinet console stereo, there was enough empty space in that cabinet to hide a person inside.

I'm still using a Yamaha CR640 I bought in 1980 along with a set of Advent speakers. Last year I got a Bluetooth receiver for it so I can play music from my phone. 8)

Do you think it's the owners favorite art or was it for sale? I've seen stores that also display artists work.

I don’t think it was for sale, just the theme of the decor. Lots of other racing items from F1, GT cars, etc. Not something I would have expected to see in the middle of a college town.
