750 Frame nooks and crannies.
« on: August 28, 2020, 02:25:50 AM »
Got my 750 frame stripped down ready to paint and am wondering what others do if anything about the nooks and crannies where paint just wont go?
I gave my bike a good wash before taking the motor out and was alarmed to find water was caught in this gusset when I lifted the frame away from the motor. Have drilled a small hole (arrow in pic) on both sides of the frame so water will not collect there in the future.
I did see a product in a spray/rattle can today that was a type of fish oil compound with an acetone base that was designed for hard to paint places however it had a normal rattle can nozzle, not as I was hoping one of those long skinny plastic tubes you see on some wd40 cans.
What have you done about these hard to get places?

Hi just remembered that bike builders use a long nozzle frame inside coater that you can spray the inside of that bracket and other frame places with weep holes to prevent rust. I know that this is not what you are asking about but maybe would help for final results of rust weeping out of those places. for the hard to reach places you can always use a small brush to get those places covered well then spray . I'll look in the basement later for the information on the frame  coat I have and post it. Good luck with the build.

That was exactly what I was asking about.
I have never seen a "long nozzle frame inside coater" before.
Might have to improvise.

Good one Gary, will have to visit the local push bike shop to see if they have some of that.

I've been tempted to weld all of mine up and smooth them out, but maybe the spray is the ticket.

I would just weld up the holes after all the moisture is out.  Should be easy enough to dry out the insides with a torch.  That is, assuming you have access to a welder; but that would be my plan anyhow.
