Lower exhaust pipe #3 removal 72 750
« on: October 31, 2020, 01:32:43 PM »
Is it possible to remove the lower #3 exhaust pipe without taking the top pipe off also?  I’m replacing my #3 pipe with a nos one that I found.  The exhaust was just off last week (done at a my local shop) so the 2 flange screws shouldn’t be a pita.

Don't need to remove the 2 flange (spigot) screws at the head to change the muffler as they are a slip fit. Just loosen the collar. Not sure though if a side needs to come off in pairs, never tried just one. Seems possible.

You have to pull off the rear footpeg (that large bolt goes through both pipes) any ways. Unfasten the small pipe that connects the two muffler. Loosen the finned clamp and slide the pipe you want forward. By the time you mess around, it’s probably easiest to take the outside pipe off first. Only one more head clamp anyways.

That's what I was thinking also. Its kind of a combination of a wiggle/swivel and pull to get them off. Then they both should be loose when you go and try to line everything back up when installing.
