I wasn't planning on being here
« on: November 08, 2020, 06:53:57 PM »
Hi,

I bought 2 project bikes this year. The first was a vintage twin (not pictured), the second was an 82 CB650 but I bought that one by accident. It is a complete basket case, see pics, so here I am.

I am looking forward to getting them both back into riding condition and to learning more along the way.
It seemed like a good idea at the time

75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts' & 81' CB125S modded to a 'CB200S'
I love the small ones too !

I did not get any more parts with it. The seller said he had some stuff that he could not find, his shop was a mess so I could see that, but he never came up with anything. I have since got most of the missing stuff from eBay. Which of course, increased the cost of the bike to near something I could have purchased intact and maybe operational. But that wouldn't have made for an interesting story. Lesson learned there. Next time I will make sure a bike is more complete.

Next time I will make sure a bike is more complete.

Why? Where's the fun in that?
Once you've built it with your own 2 hands, nothing else ever rode so well. ;)

That's not a basket case, I see no baskets or bins.

Welcome, yes the fun is putting it back together. I picked up a 2002 GSXR1000 that was in three very large plastic bins, and rolling chassis, after a dealer took it apart 10 years ago. They found a spun rod bearing and then called the owner and told him to pick up his bike as they were closing the doors. Now that was a basket case.
