Ah, now I see the wisdom in soaking the A.P.E. heavy duty studs in acetone before installing them.

Had a small amount of overspray on the 2 studs/oil passageway  ( not much at all ) while painting the cases apart . Had everything taped off but just that little bit of overspray paint got on the 2 studs & that heated up w/ hot oil & clogged one feed . New cam , ect...    Live & learn -

ps , made a lot of nasty noise when it failed -

Johans, that's a bummer.  Mine was making some awful noises too, that's what keyed me into what was going on under the valve cover.  Haven't goofed up an engine rebuild in a long time, last one was a Cummins N14 (#1 cylinder liner would not seal and constantly leaked coolant, until I replaced the copper shim at the top of the liner).  Just glad to have it back up and running again.

This is a very good example to learn from. I bet many has missed that and had thoughts about other reasons when jets are clogged.

I have seen gaskets with small fiber parts falling off around the holes. Base and head gasket. Important to cut that fiber burrs (beard) off before it enters the oil feed holes when assemble the cylinder and head.

I have been lucky so far.
I think about not leaving any debris when changing oil filter.  Clean filter cover and engine area very carefully.
