Many moons ago, I was a photocopier tech. Service Manager's mantra was " always think simple". Had a copier that kept blowing heat lamps, so I got out my multimeter and started doing calculations on resistance, current, amperage etc to find out if the lamp was drawing too much current and blowing. ( these lamps were several hundred dollars, even back in the early 90's) SM came over and within seconds observed that the cooling fan wasn't running! Doh! Don't underestimate the likelihood of a fix being simple.
