DSS; Honda vs "pattern" ?
« on: June 11, 2005, 08:58:08 AM »
For engine parts (CB400F), I'm finding that stock Honda parts are probably the best way to go for the engine internals. I went down and my left side engine cover is completely gouged out. Not being familiar w English terminology, I'm assuming "pattern" is another word for repop? Would I need to worry about anything getting a repop engine cover, or stick with Honda there, too?

"Pattern" = aftermarket.  Made by somebody else and generally a pretty good copy.  If DSS sells it, it's OK - he's too good a reputation to lose!

I've used a lot of Dave Silver parts and they are very good. If you watch eBay (particularly the german sites) left side covers come up fairly regularly.

I look at ebay, and once in a while I'll sell something, but most of the time when I bid on something someone comes in at the last second and outbids me. ebay has become a bit cut-throat for me.  I beleve I'll order from Mr Silver.
Be the way, we've been hearing rumours of arc construction around here (speaking of rain). I use a spackle knife to get mold off my riding boots.  :'(

If you mean the alternator (generator) casing I have a berand new Honda one that was numbered wrong--I bought it as a 500 one-- £15 plus shipping if you want it.
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Roughly $30 USD. Any clue on shipping cost? Mind if I see what DSS wants for one? Thanks
