CB350f valve timing
« on: December 20, 2020, 07:40:01 AM »
I had my head off to repair the common left front oil leak - per the manual I set the marker to T for 1,4 then made sure the cam chain drive sprocket marks were in line with the top of the head.

What I don't understand is how to I determine which is TDC compresion vs TDC exhaust. Maybe I am overthinking it.

I also test fit the valve cover and it sits up about 1/16 or so depending where you rotate the engine. I have all the tappet adjusters backed off - are the rubber bands to keep the adjusters up? Mine seem to sit there pretty good on there own.

Thanks all, here's hoping for no leaks. I did use copper coat, opted out of any sealant around the o rings.

Well I think I just answered my own question. If it was the exhaust then the cam lobe would be facing down. TDC compression should have both facing up.

TDC compression both valves are closed after the intake closes.

Doesn't matter. Set crank to T-14 and align the cam mark parallel with the head top surface. That's all.

Look at the cam lobes on the two outer cylinders, the 2 pointing down are on compression and the 2 pointing up exhaust but it dont matter a stuff anyway cos if you turm the crank till the 1-4 T mark lines up again( one full turn) the cam only rotates 1/2 turn and the lobes swap over
