1978 CB550K Seat question
« on: February 02, 2021, 06:44:31 AM »
Hello all,
I am looking to change the look of my seat.  I have looked around the web but cant find what I am looking for.....so asking the experts here.  Are there off the shelf products that will bolt up to the existing seat hindge that you can buy that have different seat configurations?  I was wanting a shorter look with a slight hump (not a metal hump) that bolts up to the existing attachment points.  Did not want to do any drastic cutting and adding a hoop and such.  If I can find this I can just chop the rear fender shorter and bolt up a light/licence plate holder on the back of the shorter fender.

If I can't find this I can just remove the existing seat, strip it to metal, cut the seat pan to the shape I want, and then bring it to someone to make up the coushins and leather......or buy another seat pan that fits the bike and do the same that way I can keep the stock one.

Thanks for any info

Have you seen the '74-76 550K OEM seats?  They are slightly different [no hump] and should be a direct fit.

I have a feeling the 77/78 seat hinge position and seat shape are unique, if so your seat in good condition may sell easy then start from scratch.

a 77/78 seat pan is basically a 500 or 74/76 550 seat pan that has been shortened at the front and lengthened at the rear. The earlier seat wont close with the later tank fitted, the later seat if used with the earlier tank will leave a gap between them.
