Hello new guy here.
« on: March 11, 2021, 10:57:44 AM »
Hey everyone,

Well I'm new to this forum. I have always been into cars having grown up around drag racing. However I am fairly new to the motorcycle world. In the early 2010's I was introduced to the cafe racer concept and I knew one day I would have a classic motorcycle. In 2013 I bought a 1976 CB550F. It was completely stripped in a few boxes. This was about the time I found this forum. I browsed through pages of pictures and modifications y'all did which I used to somewhat blueprint my end goal. I found the Big Bore CB550/650 by Paulages and I just new I wanted to attempt the same project. A little while later I found a 1980 CB650C which I planned to use for my big bore project. Years passed I changed careers, moves city's, and got married. Those parts sat around not being touched and rarely thought of. Now this past month I decided to purchase a road ready 1977 CB550K Cafe Racer.  This lead me back to this forum.  I still have plans to do the Big Bore 550 and I think I will have an easier time and more motivation to complete this project since I will be able to enjoy riding and building the engine simultaneously.

Howdy!

That bike looks great! Not my style personally but I can definitely see the effort that went into it.

Welcome to the forum 'FPFD'  :) I agree that Caf'e bike looks nice;the Suzuki tubeless tire applicable wheels look good on it.

Not Suzuki I think, some CB450SC and CB750SC got these in the early 80s when Comstars were on their way out.

They look just like the OEM brand Enkei cast aluminum wheels from the mid 80's that come on Suzuki GS models. The design was the first to say "tubeless tire applicable" cast into the rims.

Thanks for the welcome guys! I'm glad to be a member instead of just lurking around here. I actually posted looking for help with identification of the wheels. I need to find a speedometer drive. Someone figured out they are '82-83 Honda FT500 Ascot wheels. They are marked "'Tubeless tire applicable", "Honda", and "Enkei". The same model years CB750SC NIGHTHAWK had similar wheels only difference was the size. I initially thought about changing them for laced wheels but I think I'll keep them around for a while since they aren't that common.

Welcome aboard
That modified swingarm with the mono shock looks interesting. How does it handle?
Where is that old train station the bike is in front of? Is that in Hemet?(I looked at your profile to see where you were but United States.....miff)... I'm into old trains and buildings too besides my 750s.

I know an old racer/race bike builder engineer that is still building the 550s into 650 big bore conversions in SoCal. He worked for Action Four back in the 1970s.
