Plastic chrome repair.
« on: April 15, 2021, 11:48:27 AM »
I recently fitted smaller indicators to my '76 CB550F which work a treat at low rpm.

I bought 3 pair so I could use one pair to figure out how they are put together and do other evil experiments with them. Now I'm in the process of restoring those two and using a spares. You can not have too many spares,With dome plastic tubing and gel super glue I've the two pieces of stem together and set.

Now it is time to build up the bits of edges I'd damaged and get them back to chrome. mSiple process really. I used black Hammerite to build up the damaged edges letting each layer to dry to the touch befor adding a new layer to build it up, Once I was satisfied with the amount I'd layered on live it to set for at least 12 hours.Once  set use an abrasive paper or small files to restore  the stem surface to its or near enough to it's original shape to your liking.

I popped down to the local model shop and get suggestions on the top coat.  The nice chap suggested  a liquid chrome detail pen and showed me an example of it applied to a plastic disk. . These came in a couple  of tip sizes I chose the 2mm tipped one and toodled off home.

Got home gave the pen a good shake then applied liquid chrome  to the stem I'd repaired last night..Very happy with the end result.
