87 XL 600 R
« on: May 07, 2021, 09:33:06 PM »
Flipping through some dual sport ads and saw an XL 600R for a decent price and was wondering if anybody has any experience with these. I believe this is a single cylinder but sports 2 carbs, is that something I should run away from? Are there any other known issues to look out for?

Just rolling this around in my mind and wondering if it would be worth the battle with the wife. It has a pink AND current registration.  Ok 123........sway me one way or the other, go! 🤔

Guy says a grand. Says he doesn't want to, or can't get the carbs right.

As far as I know, the XR/XLs motors were pretty much bullet-proof, and I don't recall any specific problems with the twin carb versions. The big question is are you up to kick-starting a big thumper? ;)

...it's a legendary dirt bike...grab it.  Guys I have talked tend to shy away from the dual carb years.  I don't really know what the problem is...parts availabilty? or just more complex than your typical flatslide?  Anyway they are popular enough that there are very good carb swaps available that make the bike run better than it ever did when brand new.
If it works good, it looks good...

The ad is still up but the guy won't respond.😡 if he sold it at least take down the ad os say it's gone.

Oops wrong thread! Should be "pissed off" or" how not to sell a bike."

I would love to have an XL600R.I'd like to build a custom-frame street bike some day using it as a base.  8)
