lol I will try to forget this thread as I have just purchased my first AGM, an SSB powersport which has terminals exactly like my old wet acid battery which has been very slowly dying for the last three years or so...

Don’t fret too much John. There was just the tiniest amount of charge available to me and it was enough so that a kick start was possible and my CB went a long way running well without very much battery. If I had been more practiced in this mode of operation I might have made it home without fail.
These days a bike with a kickstart is a novelty, way back, reliable electric start was the novelty.
There is lots to be learned about batteries and there is lots of effort these days into battery research. I think AGM is an improvement, we need more clues/knowledge on impending failure. Mine was 6 years no touch. 4,5,6 months off season and starts/cranks without fail, until the end…. And I bought another one myself.  ???

I haven’t made my 100 mile proof ride yet as we have had 6+ inches of rain over the last few days, but I am confident that it will be good.

I have had batteries that suddenly died, car as bike batteries. Like something suddenly fell apart inside and shorted the cells.
Car got a  Bosch 72Ah last time hopefully live longer than previous cheaper that lived 4 years.
Car battery will show its weakness in winter.

Bike similar life.  Cheap GEL, my K2 got a cheap wet battery last time. It might survive longer when I understood the importance to not overcharge.
GEL want not more than 14.4V ( lower recommended for longer ride 14.1-2V), the old style withstand 14.7V.

I have adjusted the regulators to not charge more than 14.2V  which happen when crusing a while after city riding where blinkers, brake light and lower rpm do not give much extra.
Here headlight on constantly.

Both my bikes have voltage meter I can see while riding. Very useful gadget.

Way to dark November- February and cold. It also develops into wrong direction.  Too many economic immigrants draining the economy.  It is still OK where we live.

We think about emigrate, talking about it very often. Saving money so we can move when I retire  or at least have an extra appartment in the sun winter time within a few years and finally move. To a sunnier place cheaper to live and money last longer. No heating nor cooling needs of appartment is on the map at the moment.
Bikes must be a part of it too!
California is also a place people move from?

We have just seen programs on TV where people find properties in Caribbean and Hawaii. Looks nice. ;) But probably not cheap places to live.

Biking all year around will make the battery to live longer too!  ;D

I enjoy the warm weather with riding all year long.I also miss the deep-woods which was back in the NorthEast(East Coast)because I enjoy taking long walks through the woods.I had taken many walks alone through the woods on Nature Trails, this helps me do more 'deep thinking' as the Forest has a peace about it.   ;)

California cost of living is beyond crazy expensive, definitely not a place to move to unless you have a very high paying job there. Hawaii also has outrageous cost of living, gallon of milk on the big island cost about $10, same gallon is $2.50-2.75 in AZ most of the time. Nice place to visit but difficult to live there in retirement.
IMHO, fwiw...
