Hello new guy here 1973 CB750K3
« on: August 04, 2021, 07:14:38 PM »
Hello everyone new guy here, but long time "bike" guy. I purchased a 1973 CB750K3 about 4 years ago pretty dirt cheap $300.00 with new title. The bike was pretty decent shape for $300.00. It had a 6" over tubes ,ape hangers etc. The bike belong to a friends uncle was in his garage for years I was over there one day  doing some metal fab on an old car (kinda my hobby). I ask "Duck" is that bike for sale, he said "shore $300.00 bucks and its yours" Well told him let talk to wife about....now mind you guys I'm car guy, and Harley guy At this point already had 2 "projects" I have 1973 Sporty, and 1994 Prostreet Camaro. Harley runs, Camaro is in the works.
So Duck goes into details about the bike, It has a 836 big bore kit, Barrnet clutches and springs, Web Camshaft .340/.340 235°/236.5°, also said the head was ported and polished. Now mind you all this was done back in early 1994, I have the receipts.....there little faded but you read some the work was done, all new bearings, gaskets etc... Duck did say bike will haul a$$, He said back in the day it would lift the frontend all 1,2,3,4....5 just roll hard.
Now when 1st got the bike I really did have plans for it at that time...I was looking doing a cafe racer. So hopped on old internet start ordering random parts,
Well first thing I ordered was every part for the carbs.... floats, rebuild kits, master jet and pilot kit, then I ordered some Pod filters for it, Vortex clipons, new fork tubes -1" shorter, fork seals etc.
Also ordered some aftermarket clutch and front master cylinder.
At that time I tore the front down to rebuild the front section and ended stopping due just kinda lost interest, having 3 projects hard so focused on 1 lol.
Now fast forward 2 weeks ago. As of now I doing little things to the bike got most of the odd and ends tore off, degreased the engine and power washed the motor spent about 6 hours getting rid of the Honda silver paint just did a light scuff with a gray scotcbrite and some Mothers mag cleaner dont wont polished look just natural aluminum finish, got all the covers off they will be polished to mirror finish, I added a cafe racer hoop, did some fab work on the frame got rid some tabs, passenger foot peg brackets just cleaned up the frame a bit. Took wiring harness out it must had 4000 splices with,.,,,,,well just a rats nest. Going to buy a new wiring harness for it or make my own.
So about week I started on the carbs I have a homemade soda blaster that works great on aluminum etc. Well as i am cleaning a carb I pull out the cabinet I dropped and broke with tabs for the float goes on so I found one ebay... not thinking about I got wrong one ...my bad...I got the 3rd carb when i need the 2nd one....I been on ebay everyday trying find one I found some but not paying 600.00 for set carbs when i only need the one all the rest are perfect.
I have ordered alot stuff for it in last year or just random stuff, got a full stainless bolt kit allen head for covers etc., repop front brake caliper and ordered all new cables think there 5" shorter than stock, I have a top triple tree from some guy on ebay really nice piece being put clipons on, also have new repop side covers and emblems, also in last week had oil tank off and bead blasted and powdered coated, the gas tank was full of rust I am on look out for a gas tank repops are in $400.00 range was looking on flea bay and Amazon some aftermarket "cafe racer" gas tanks just dont trust them....

That is a great deal just 4 years ago. I picked up my K3 in 2000 for $250 and my K8 last year for $300. Deals are out there but we earn them. I'm glad you're here, it's one of the best bike forums with the best community you're likely to find.
