Carb bodies would look nice much nicer either glass bead blasted exterior or vapor blasted. Nice work. Polishing the bowls looks good that way as well...
Make up some plugs to seal the carb bodies before blasting. Had a set of CV carbs bead blasted and they still look great...similar to stock look for the bodies.
Nice work, she is cleaning up nicely. The motor cylinders won't be as easy to clean up any oxidation when assembled.

I spent the better part of the morning patching rust through on the stock exhaust system.  Most of the repairs are on the underside of the mufflers and not visible, but there are a couple of good ones that do show.  It will be leak free, but certainly not going to win a beauty contest, so I will have to make final call when it comes time to bolt everything back up.  There are some new K70's waiting in the wings and someone please tell me why every CB750K owner in the 70's installed a lowering kit.  I think I two already in the parts bin, time to add one more.....

When the 80's rolled in, cruiser style bikes with 16" wheels and lower rear end became popular, hence the lowering kit.  And/or the short guys liked it so they could touch the ground.  Highly doubt you would ever use them but every once in a while someone does look for a set.

One of those days when you accomplish about 1/3 of what you were planning, so I knocked off and came in to start dinner prep for the Wife.  Since she still works, I consider it my job, plus the Woman gest damn mean if she isn't fed on time.  Finished up the pipes with some chrome paint here and there to cover patches, look decent from a distance.  Laid primer on the new side covers, as always good quality and fast shipping.  I also taped off the tank and shot a couple coats of Planet Blue after sanding the imperfections to where the paint would fill in.  Is it perfect, far from it, but I believe a couple good coats of quality clear may save the paint job.  I also did half of the valve cover with some wool and Mothers but like I said, run out of time, the hungry Wife thing........

Pulled the rear yesterday to clean, paint, and install a new tire.  Old tire was a Chinese 460/18 and was so brittle I thought at one point I was going to have to cut it off.  The surprise came when I finally got it broken, some how the prior owner had installed a 400/450/19inch tube onto an 18 inch wheel.  I wondered why the valve stem did a 45 degree bend when I removed the lock nut.  There more wrinkles in the tube than Willie Nelson's arse, but it had held air for all of these years.......

The lowering kits were popular in the mid 70s. I always kept a couple sets on the shelf when I was parts manager in 76 and 77. People of short stature......

And yes the 16" hog rims were popular then too. I put the 16" hog rim on my 76 a couple weeks after getting out of the crate, along with the Hooker Header and the other mods I had available at near cost... The perks were great. (I should have ordered the Planet Blue tank and side covers, but didn't have the extra $300 to spend at the time.)

Britman yours is coming along great. Good to hear "it runs really well"! I've been having fun riding my 75 when we aren't getting inundated with rain up here in the north.......lost our Wed night bike night this week to Ida rolling through here. Noticeably cooler though yesterday after the storm, how about you? Any cooler there? 52 here this early am.......

Yes the weather here has been beautiful since Ida made her exit.  Today a high of 79 and cool at night in the lower 60's.   I am usually a summer person, but the heat and humidity this summer has truly kicked my butt.

Finished up putting the badging back on this morning.  I ordered the bottom plastic tank trim pieces from 4 into 1 and was impressed with the quality for the price.  Pretty darn close to OEM.  I am still trying to get my eyes uncrossed from touching up the emblems by hand.....

Carbs, airbox, coils, all back on today.  Poured a little gas in the carbs and it fired right away, minus headers and pipes.  Of course I didn't run it long, but blew a little carbon out. I installed the battery permanently and a charge port, for all intensive purposes the rear is done, I just have the front end to do and tins to install.....

Sometimes you have to dance with who brought you, I pulled the Rocket 3 out today and took it for a short spin.  Damn I don't ride it enough but it is one that will never go anywhere.  Bought it brand spanking new in 2005 and we have had some good times through the years.  Still makes me smile every time I twist the throttle.....

Put the tank on yesterday and ran lines.  Bike fired immediately and around the block we went.  The good is it shifts beautifully and the clutch feels great, the bad, no top end.  It is sickly at full throttle, no missing or hesitation, just lack of power,  so back to the drawing board.  There is no smoke and bike runs great at lower rpm's so I am thinking carbs to begin with but I am pulling plugs and double checking everything, hopefully today.  I hate it when you get a gremlin toward the end, but it builds character.

I checked the basics first, pulled the plugs, 2 nd 3 were wet.  Checked fire across the board and Wala, middle cylinders dead.  First thought bad coil, also thought first bad stock 750 coil I have ever seen.  Tank came off and there sat an unplugged black/white wire going to coil 2/3.  When I zip tied the wires it must have not been plugged tight and came free.  Cleaned the plugs, dropped the tank back on, and I have to confess, the best running 750 I have ever sat on.  Fast, pulls like a freight train, and shifts smooth as butter.  Of course there are some little fixes pending, got one weeping carb and I think a new petcock might be needed, but this is going to be a good running motorcycle.  I really may have to think what bike I am going to sell.....
