The 75 CB550F I collected in the late eighties, was quite dilapidated and neglected, tank rusty and dropped off at my curb by truck delivery.  The well worn seat remnants it came with were...black.  I just can't imagine it had been replaced since it came off the showroom floor.  I ordered from Honda a new seat.  It came in as brown.  I brought my old seat in and asked them why the color change.  They said their were two numbers, and ordered the black one for me.  The crusty salesman who had sold the bikes wandered by and said he never saw a brown seat until the 76 model showed up.  Wasn't popular, and many seats were swapped out with the earlier black seats.

I still have that mis-ordered Brown seat in a Honda box.  It will go on the 76 CB550F when the one it has wears out.

The Honda ID guide only noted changes for the year/ model from previous years, and didn't state or note all standard equipment for each year.

I really don't care how some wish to rationalize it.  I think the only model the brown looks right on is the Shiny orange 76 model.  The blue version needs the black. IMO.

but your anecdotal bike story with the anecdotal salesman, a double secret color choice of which no one knows or has no proof of except, of course you,( in your mind) because it's you, right?....is the absolute truth...laughable ....
