77 CB550F Fuel Screen/Strainer Cost???
« on: August 26, 2021, 06:00:05 AM »
My fuel screen/ strainer is looking a little rough about the base from removing from the tank  so many times.   I looked at getting a new one, thinking how expensive could it be?  I was thinking 5-10 bucks top.  They aren't as easy to find as I had expected.   And the one on 4into1 is $46.  Does this sound right?  The petcock itself is only $14.   I did find one on another site for $31

In short, before I put down $35 for such a simple part, I'm checking to see if its common to use a different part number strainer (cross over)or whether I can only use the 16952-388-015?

Thanks

I was surprised by the price, too, when I was in the same position. Ended up buying from 4into1 but I see listings from other sellers on Ebay. After the 3rd or 4th time taking those carbs off to clean out more fuel tank gunk, I came to the decision that the price wasn't that bad.

I tried the reverse part number lookup but no luck.

Cheers!

That price for a petcock has to be aftermarket and they fail notoriously

Thanks for the responses.  I'll bite the bullet and cough up the $.  I still have my original petcock (seem like they could have come up with a better name). It works fine.  One of the few things on the bike that does lol.

Back in the 70s as a young parts manager at 20 I would give a chuckle at that too.
And yes, fuel tap, is the more gentile verbage.
