CB750 flat clutch cover what bike does it go to
« on: December 05, 2021, 06:39:25 AM »
Awhile ago I bought a cool finned points cover for cb750. the fins were differnt than the machined finned covers from kk AND MC as they were more rounded out. a week ago I saw another finned cover for the outer clutch housing cover same style of fins so I bought it. since I didn't have a 750 to try it on I bought a clutch housing to try it on but the housing bolts are too small and dont line up for the cover to fit and the finned cover is flat where the holes are and not like the housing holes where two are higher than the third hole.

now I am wondering what year 750 this would have been on.

attached are pics of the clutch cover with three holes and the points cover with two holes

I really liked the way the clutch cover looked so I started on another casting to fill the holes and relocate to proper hole locations

also I couldn't find any information on racecrafters international. was it a boutique company?

That cannot be the clutch cover. 3 hole cover most likely for alternator cover or other bike.

My finned clutch cover look like this. A flat not finned area for kick. The kick cover the  3rd screw,  a countersunk one.

Included with this three hole cover was another three holed finned cover for the generator side but it is like the kk and mc type cover the machined type cover.

This flat cover is the exact size and fits perfectly in the clutch cover  but the holes just don't line up.

I do see how the kickstart lever fits that smooth part but would the kickstart lay to the side if the whole cover was finned?

The 3 hole cover was likely for the alternator cover, though it may be for the CB500/550 if the fins don't angle right.  The clutch cover does have to be cut away, or the kickstart won't fold in at all.

Racecrafters was an icon on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, one of the first shops to specialize in cafe racer and racing parts in the late '60s.  They originated those finned engine covers, along with the ubiquitous clamp-on-the-the-fork-tubes 3 hole headlight brackets.  George Kerker distributed his 4-into-1 exhaust solely through Racecrafters, and they sold Yoshimura parts, when it was still Pops Yoshimura.

It's a shame lived up near Los Angeles from 08 to last year and never heard of them from any of the older race guys around there. I figure I'll go ahead and make the cover for the clutch side as I think it would look good for those who use only electronic start and delete the kicker

since the points cover looked so good, I went ahead and took the other Casting for supposed clutch cover and figured out where the holes go, filled the larger ones and did a recast for the second time. it definitely goes pretty good paired with the points cover so I will make another cast to use the fins for the generator side to make a full set. with or without the logo.
