My issue is, you say ALL the seats are brown. I show 2 contemporary photos of black seats on new 1975 bikes and you don't address that, just insist that I'm wrong. Your Cycle World test thinks the brown seats are novel enough to make special mention of, yet the Australian test says nothing about them, despite mentioning the new paint schemes. Advertising hyperbole means nothing if its aimed at a different market on a different continent. What's so hard about accepting that on this issue you might be mistaken? This is not a sackable offence; you don't need to leave the forum, just be open to the possibility that occassionally there may be new things for you to learn. That's the main reason I spend time here, to learn from people who know much more than I. Occassionally I make suggestions based on my own experience, but I'm sure if I didn't someone else would step in.

I use the Honda identification guide all the time. It is "a" source, not "the" source. All sources can have mistakes, understand. There are other sources such as parts books, old magazines, official brochures, original documented one owner , then lastly and least, opinions, feelings, "I heard", "I think" ..."my bike I found ".
Who cares? ..some people do. I do. Go on the 750 sandcast site and see just what matters such as the cap on the brake reservoir, right Benellli?.....
Maybe a newbie might care, maybe someone wants a correct 550F. So I post it, and some can't take it. They don't care about a correct 550 so why post anything? ...looking for trouble, being a smarttass...ok, I'll play...c.
The honda identification guide gives no color for the '75 model. Ok, so now what. It doesn't prove or disprove anything. And I was told years ago to not post my drivel. So I've done the research, there it is. And I don't take too kindly to being told not to do something....
Anyone care to have a discussion, fine.....
you should read all of the thread, it is entertaining.....some got deleted though....

I think you should take your medication. It’s getting rediculis now.

Well, it works both ways, I want to learn and contribute when I can. You say you do, ok. All I said years ago was a casual mention of a color and I got attitudes like thep1pe.....ok, game on then...

look. you want to have a discussion. Fine. Let me get my medication first, see the bs comments?  No way I'll lay down to that. so, f.h.
I'm sorry, but there's  is no proof of black. There's multiple evidence of brown. Big bike, not cycle guide, my mistake. But cycle, sept.1975 has a big article and mentions no color either. It doesn't prove anything. Ok?
I showed two pics, same bike, one seat looks brown, one black. ...see 'em? What is not on there is an overlay that goes on that pic with a black looking seat ...that says dark brown!....
I've showed everything else....Plus I have a 100%, all original, mint, unrestored 1975 550F....it matters to me....
nope , it's no sandcast, got it....
But maybe even an older guy, who just believed something and never saw anything else, just might be mature enough to listen....well that didn't happen
....but maybe one person, newbie maybe, maybe someone wanting to know what's original on a little old 550, just might appreciate the truth ...ok?.....
why can't you be willing to listen...

There's no proof of black? Are the 2 photos I posted not proof?

They look black. Is it possible that a dark brown seat can look black under different photography lighting and angles?
Look at these two pics. Does one seat look brown and the other black? I'm asking. be honest.
Have you ever seen a turquoise '75?...is that turquoise?....or blue that looks turquoise because of the photography. Did honda release a turquoise bike in japan? Maybe?....I've never seen any evidence ever otherwise. That picture doesn't prove anything, yet.....

I know who you remind me of; a guy with funny hair. He got a job in Washington that came with accommodation, but he did such a crap job they gave him the sack after 4 years and he had to move out. His missus had just spent a shedload of shareholder funds doing the place up, too.
Mind you, I'm not surprised he didn't last long; HR was on his case from the day he moved in. He hung around with some well dodgy characters and got some oversees crowd to "enhance" his CV , if you get my drift. It didn't help when some woman, who was not his wife, claimed he had a small penis, not that I'm suggesting that applies to you, no siree, quite the opposite, in fact.
Anyway, at the next AGM, they voted him out, but he refused to leave. He reckoned HR jacked up the vote counting machines, tried to get some people's postal votes deleted because they lived in areas he didn't like. Even went to court, but the court chucked out his arguments, so he got some " less stable" shareholders to march on head office and smash the place up a bit, just to show he meant business. He eventually moved back to Florida to play golf, I believe. He's always going on about how rich he is, but I think he's in the cactus a bit, because, even though he's well past retirement age he's always saying he's going to reaapply for his old job when it comes up again in a couple of years. If he's not in clink by then.

BTW, I presume you have considered that, rather than the brown seats appearing to be black, they are, in fact, black and the advertising people, who are no more infallible than you, may have cocked up. You considered it for 1\2 a microsecond before dismissing it because it doesn't fit with what you want to believe.
Just to be clear, I don't actually care one way or the other, the sun will still rise tomorrow on hopefully a more peaceful world.

Nah, over here we call him Dodgy Don. Re the water, it's called self-deprecating humour, comes in capsules, get it from the chemist. Living in Pacific Paradise  we ( I) get a little smug, sorry about that. But, seriously, this is getting out of hand, and I've got a life to live so you and I will have to agree to disagree, Friends?

 Knock it off guys.

We're beating a dead horse here. The facts are inconclusive and no one is going to change anyone else's mind about it. It's starting to get off topic and personal.

Locking this thread for a minute while everyone cools off.
