Is my luck finally turning?
« on: March 02, 2007, 10:28:25 PM »
I had a beaut drop out of the blue today. I met a guy carrying a helmet at my favourite cafe, yep, the one in the picture, and we got to talking about riding. He has a LowRider HD and he asked what I ride. I told him all about Rita with a gleam in my eye, and he was interested about chopped hondas, and I told him the history as I knew it and told him how I was restoring Rita to glory. He said, by the way, you know anyone who wants a 750? A 74 honda 750? I said I could ask around and I asked what he wanted for it, and he said if I could find someone who would haul it away, then nothing. It has been Non-Op for at least 15 years, here in California, if you know you aren't going to use a vehicle, you can Non-op it to save registration costs. The latest Non-op was just done so no reg for this year. He has keys and title, and just wants it gone. Needless to say, I jumped and told him let me call you later after I make a few calls, and I am going to see it on Sunday, and hopefully pick it up as well. Depends on if I can get a truck to haul it up here from there. But, I expect that by this time on Monday, I'll be the proud new owner of a 1974 CB750 K4 Stocker.

Will ya'll still like me if I ride a stock 750? ;D ;D ;D

I'll get pics and updates soon,

Peace and Long Rides,

Jeff

Well, it is a sure thing now. I am going to pick up the new 750 tomorrow at around 2:30 PST. I have new batteries for the camera and everything is ready to go. I cannot wait to see it. This is the first time I have ever found a give away and I feel like it should be christmas or something, I'm all hopped up and probably won't sleep a wink tonight, lol. Anyway, I'll keep ya'll posted.

I can see it now, Eldar is going to be my new best friend, isn't he???? I was misinformed, it is a 1978, with Shoei fairing and bags, bags gotta go, but I'll see what I can do with the fairing. When I saw that mileage, I almost drooled, I'll bet that mill is barely broken in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the inside of the tank is spotless, After over 15 years of sitting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn!!!!! Yeah, it needs tires and a whole lot of other stuff but what do you expect for free? The points look brand new, the mill turns freely, the oil looks like it was just put in! The tool kit is still under the seat, and the registration door under the seat is still in one piece.

Well well. Another person has finally graduated to the latest and greatest of the sohcs! I got my bike for free too. It was in a bit better shape as in not as dirty but most everything cleaned up very well. I fixed my vetter and it looks great but then I took it off! ::)
Even had one of those big engine guards like that. It worked as I saw the effects of a right hand lay over on the bar. Took that off and just won some used but pretty nice 3 points guards. My engines and tank need paint but the tank should get it this spring along with my sidecovers and maybe the engine next year.

I bet though, once you have her cleaned up, she will still be pretty nice. I hard to get new mufflers too. I got slash-cut megaphones and they look pretty darn good.   Welcome to the 78 club!

Excellent deal. I'm really amazed at looking at all the pictures, especially what looks like moss growing on the seat, that the inside of the tank appears immaculate. It sure will be nice now that you have 1 bike to ride and 1 to work on. Beats the hell out of walking when your bike is down.

Well, I do a little here, a little there. The fun goes on ;D I am having a blast cleaning this bike! I have a full gas tank to keep it clean, about 75% of the dirt and cobwebs are gone, lots of the chrome has been started with Nevrdull, battery removed to make place for the battery that is on order. Clutch, throttle, and choke cables found and waiting payment, oil filter and oil waiting for me to change. I really do see changes every day working on this. The one thing giving me headaches is not finding the muffler for #1 pipe, not on Ebay, and haven't found it anywhere else affordable yet. More to come. ;D :D ;D

Holy Moly! I can't wait to get the pictures uploaded! I finallt got the remaining dirt, twigs, and cobwebs off the bike and am amazed at the difference! Looks like a totally different bike! I still have a long way to go with all the chrome, but that engine looks pretty good after all those layers of crud got removed. Without the throttle cable attached, the carbs snap right back to closed, tight and crisp!, Choke opens and closes smoothly without that cable. Haven't tried the clutch arm yet, but soon. I will be going through the electrical in a little while, checking bulbs, etc. Keeping you informed,

Well, I tried to power the damn thing up and got a big fat zero. I checked the fuses, all good, checked the wiring, one spot of corrosion and cleaned, still nothing, checked the ign switch, good. Now I gotta really tear into it, I never was any good at electrical diagnosis!!!!!

Hey Lloyd, I am up in Novato, though I'll be moving very soon to Bethel Island, on the far side os Antioch. I probably won't get the bike down there until later this week or next week. I know that Berkeley was a bit of a haul for you and this is even further.

Well, I did something I am quite happy about today. I was moving the bike to my new home here and my chopper Bro Spiderchopper mentioned that his grandson was looking to get a crotchrocket as a learner. One of his main concerns was that if he dropped the bike, all those plastic pieces would shatter and cost a small fortune to replace each time, not to mention the power to weight ratio and everything else. The more we talked, the better my idea sounded to me, so I offered the K8 to the grandson. We worked everything out and they are happy as can be. Grandson has a new bike to learn on, grandpa has another CB750 in the family, and I have Rita to finish. Now, if grandson drops the bike, all those crashguards and rails with protect the vitals, he'll be able to get it back up and keep riding.

Spiderchopper and I were going to figure out the wiring problem as he is also a wiring whiz, but he and grandson will work it together and enjoy the together time. The rest of the things the bike needs are mostly just cleanup items, and an HM405 pipe, which I have already sourced for $200.00, the only place I could find it. So, with just a few hundred into it, they will have a great running bike, ready for a life of riding with the next generation of Honda afficionados.

Peace and Long Rides,

Jeff

Thats way cool Jeff!!! I would rather see a newbie on that bike than a death trap crotch rocket. Hope you get the Rita motivating soon. Mine is on hold for now. Just got a new job up in the mountains (Murphys---up by Angels Camp) . I won't see my first paycheck for 3 more weeks (but it will be a whopper!). I already depleted my funds buying a new front tire, euro bars, new bar controls,etc.,etc.,...
Its already up to about $400-500 and I just discovered the dreaded rusted out fork tubes under the headlite ears surprise!!!! Hopefully,I will be caught up with everything and be able to dump more coins into my bike and be up & running by May. Talk to you later!!!
