safety straps part of CB350F carburetor set
« on: February 09, 2022, 05:04:43 PM »
Hello,

Gonna try this without attaching a pic first since one wasn't handy.  There are some black rubber safety sstraps that are part of the CB350F carburetor set, one for each carb.  For anyone who may know of the pieces I'm referring to, can you tell me just how important they are???  I hope not very, because mine are shot.

Thanks,
Marshall

I know that part well as I just repaired then replaced mine with some used ones I finally found from a fellow member.
I am not clear what their function is on the carbs mechanism, yet I believe they are necessary and should not be removed.
I initially cut some 1/4” black fuel hose in thin slices, as mine were broken around the top or bottom holes moulded into the rubber assembly. I tried a few different glues and did have to resort to hand sewing the pieces in place, as the glues didn’t hold well enough.
Common sense.....isn't so common!

ok thanks.  I guess I'll be risking it at this point and hope I don't regret it.

I have a 350F, and have no idea what straps you are referring to. Where are these straps attached to the carbs and at the other end? I don't see any straps on mine.

They do have a purpose, as Kehein would not have included them if they were not needed.

Here is the picture of the rubber mount. It is hard to see when the bank is fully assembled alone, impossible when installed on the motor to see.

If your handy with McGiver tricks then the rubber fuel hose thin slices worked well after being sewn to the round rubber broken off hole area. If yours split in the middle fold then your fubarred. I just couldn't get any glue to hold well on its own.

The fix I did worked well after sewing the rubber fuel line sliver to the rubber top or bottom, yet later on I found someone with lots of CB350F carb parts, who had 4 decent ones to sell.

They are dust shields.

Interesting, how do you know or figure that is the purpose? No issues with any openings into critical areas of the carb through those two mount points, a simple O ring would serve that purpose.

Yes, an O ring would have done the job just fine but the straps double up as security straps, helping to keep the adjacent carb from moving.

The carbs are very secure on their mounting plates with no chance of moving once mounted, so why would these little rubber bits help there? My thought is they are some type of damper assembly that assists the part they are attached to when the throttle snaps closed.

Do you have any actual Honda tech information on these items, or are you just speculating too?

I'm not speculating but I have never seen an explanation for them. But, it would be a Keihin that would have the answer, not Honda.
