Tank Clean Advise
« on: February 11, 2022, 03:33:51 PM »
I'am buying a 93 750 Nighthawk  ( BLUE ) really nice looking bike. First thing I want to do is Take the tank off put a new petcock & strainer on it. Any advise on cleaning the tank. Their is no rust in the tank at all so that helps.  Also when I replace the petcock do I use any sealant or tape so it will not leak. Never had a Nighthawk so I got a few questions. Thanks for any help guys.

I just introduced myself in the home page under new member.

Hi Dean. I usually look at the parts diagrams at www.partzilla.com for bikes we got in the States and www.cmsnl.com for the bikes we didn't.

Your Nighthawk probably has an o-ring to seal the petcock. You can get one from Honda but I'd recommend the metric o-ring kit from Harbor Freight, they're Nitrile rubber and are fine with fuel. I think it's a #11 size. If the tank isn't too dirty just remove the petcock and drain the last few ounces into a glass jar so you can see what settles to the bottom. If there's enough sediment to see, dump in a little more fuel to slosh around and repeat until clean, no need for perfection.

ALAN.

Thanks for your advice. Very nice of you Sir. Glad you told me about the o Ring. I will order one rt now from Partzilla. We drive to pensacola tomorrow to look at 93 Nighthawk. He wants $2500.00 for it. Pretty nice looking and has a set of Givi bags on it inc top case. Will still try to negotiate the price.
I thought that was the first thing to do would be clean the tank.

Thanks for your help.  Dean
