« on: February 24, 2022, 08:10:44 PM »
Has anybody installed a 69-76 oil tank on a 77 F frame ? Im using a earlier gas tank on mine and want to use the earlier oil tank. Wondering if it bolts up/ fits before i buy one. Thanks for any info.

The short answer is no, it will not bolt right up.

An early tank also sits forward of the F location so the front of the seat leaves a large gap. Also the early seats don't bolt on. I believe I once asked a similar question until I realized my F0 frame was wrecked and had a twist.

There are 3 different tanks between 1969 to 76 and as the frame on a F had different lugs non of them fit  ;)

OK thanks. Im not using stock seats or side covers just wondering if it will fit in the triangle and work with the oil lines. I can make/weld on brackets.

That info up front would save a lot of unneeded answers. I know there have been F to K body swaps in the past, keep us in the loop how it worked out. I have not compared the part numbers of the oil hoses but you can look up the parts here.

The early oil tanks had different lines than the late ones.

Welcome to the forum snake89
No need for snarky replies........ You didn't introduce yourself nor what your intentions nor your abilities from the start. You asked on if an early K tank would fit on an F frame. You left a lot for assumptions... And you should know what ASSUME breaks down to don't you...... All your 3 posts on the forum are in the screen shot I included just to see what you've posted if there was an introduction by you we missed.
From a parts perspective there were changes on the different years oil tanks from 1969-1976 alone, so the word 'early' didn't clarify your intentions from the start. We don't know what you're thinking nor what you know. We want to help, but you have to include all information from the start.(that's why forums exist) There's lots to know about the SOHC CB750(other SOHC CB models too) changes from year to year. As an example... Early to me means 1969-1970 to get the vented side covers, which involves a different tank than 1971-1976 tanks and side covers(different tanks in the 71-76 years too). Then you throw in to the mix the different frame of the F model..... Is it doable? Sure if you are capable and have to tooling and know how of customization and correct information.
Your original question was would it bolt on....... Words have many meanings to each person and can be taken 6 different ways from putting the out in questions and statements.. So be careful in your words you choose to put down.
