i did mine, with some current parts from ikon:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,134863.msg2142529.html#msg2142529

the hardest part (even harder than getting the gland nut to open up) was getting the right parts.

I restored a set of vintage KONI shocks in 2010. Better than the worn out OEM I replaced.  Sold them on eBay for $250 last year.

However...

Bought a new set of IKON shocks, for my restoration of this machine.  I am not a expert, but these shocks are much better.  The restored bike is noticeably more stable, able to hold a line in corners and I am pleased with the improvement to my bike.

IMHO!

Picture just to show off my project,  :-[

2nd photo is from when the restored Koni's were on the machine. the dust caps are my customization using an old set of BMW shocks cut down to look closer to OE<>
I tell my wife the motorcycles are an investment...

Another question for ya Mark...are those the Yamiya cast wheels by Enkei?  They are beautiful.  Did you install them at the same time as the Ikons?

The Wheels are from Yamiya, Enkei. I installed them with Avon Roadrider tires when I did the shocks.  May be responsible for some of my perceived ride improvement?

I think the machine also looks great, but I may be biased.

for sure, that is a great looking bike.  And yes, cast wheels will deliver a nice handling improvement.

that's great to hear, thanks!
what did you do in the end: did you replace any parts, or were you able to refurbish and re-use the existing bits?
