Too Much Trail?
« on: June 11, 2022, 03:39:00 pm »
I need to know if 4.54" of trail is too much to keep me from handling well in the corners.

1977 Honda CB750K with a 2019 GSX-R 600 front end conversion with 45mm offset triples, and a 120/70-18 tire

I could use a 120/60-18 to bring the trail down to 4.29", but I'm not too keen on a 60 in front.

Thoughts on if 4.54" is too much or should be okay?
Thankful for everyone on this forum. Grateful to continue to learn so much.

I run 6-8” of trail. Going around curves at speed is a breeze! I countershift my body weight at lower speeds to make due. Just build it the way you want it and learn how to ride it!

Yep, even the best handling bikes don't ride themselves.
If it works good, it looks good...

It's a safe trail number, 115mm. Originally, my racebike was 88.75mm and I eventually destroyed it in what started as a tank slapper.  Now at 99mm and all is well!

Oh wow! That seems a bit!Ike you said, I'll just learn how to ride it!

I'm curious, did you do a front end conversion (CBR, GSX-R, ect)? If so, do you use a stabilizer?

Yep, even the best handling bikes don't ride themselves.

Well there's bound to be a learning curve! I'll learn one way or the other!

Sounds good! I might end up going with a 40mm fixed offset retro triple, instead of the 45mm, and it'll kick my trail to about 4.76" (120.9mm). I probably won't need a stabilizer at that point.

But then again I might just stick to 45mm. Good Lord, I just don't know which, hah! If the triples weren't $900 I would just get both!
