1976 CB 550 Brake pads
« on: May 29, 2022, 05:49:39 PM »
Hello Group,
My frot brake is squeaking like crazy despite cleaning etc. Many posts have talked about using OEM Honda brake pads to improve the problem. I found some vintage EBC pads or some vintage Nan Hoang pads. Does anyone have any experience with these replacement pads?
Thank you

I have EBC’s that don’t squeak…until they do that is.  Define “etc.”

I just rebuilt my calipers, new pistons, seals, fluid, lines, hardware.

Before my brakes were dragging and squeaking, but now I have zero drag and I only got one full day of riding before my #$%* started squeaking again. New vesrah pads, these are the first brand ive purchased that didnt need to have the paint taken off the sides to fit. I was getting kinda of pissed off today tbh, its just full squeaking if i have to any of my brake and its annoying to hear all day.

I think everyone has tried every possible solution and there is none.

I wrote up my process in this recent post.  Been keeping me pretty squeak free.  If and when it starts up again, I usually scuff up the brakes clean up the rotor again with the sanding disc.

Yes. The question for the group is what brand of vintage brake pads is best for avoid the squeaky noise and improve braking.
Thank you

Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Got ya.  Well, I’ve been using EBC Front Brake pads, rear shoes and clutch friction plates with good results.  Best of luck.
