Hi there,
I just bought a 1982 Honda CB650SC Nighthawk project that doesn’t start. I’ve done several engine swaps on 90s Honda’s but this is my first attempt at a motorcycle. First order of operation is to just get the bike started.
I bought a battery for it but as soon as I hooked up the positive and negative leads, the bike tried cranking over. This is with the ignition in “OFF” and there not being the 30A starter solenoid.
I briefly checked the harness and I noticed a relay that looked out of place as the wires were cut and spliced into the middle of the loom. I removed it for the time being and just re-twisted the 2 wires. I attempted to connect the battery and it tried cranking again.
According to the wiring diagram I have, it looks like it could be the rectifier however the diagram shows that the rectifier has 2 wires off it meanwhile this one has 4. Could just be the way it’s perceived in the diagram but I thought I’d check anyway. I’m guessing that the Green/Red wire has to be spliced somewhere else as it’s supposed to go to the starter solenoid, which is missing from the bike.
Also, some wires on the loom were taped up in green, blue, and yellow electrical tape. Does not seem like factory Honda but the joined wires are also crimped together.
I’m debating if I should just replace the harness with a re-production or look towards making my own harness instead and setting it up with the mo.Unit Blue.
