76 cb550f O ring install help!!!
« on: August 19, 2022, 06:50:59 AM »
fellow enthusiasts thanks in advance first time doing a top end on anything … bought the top end gasket kit from 4into 1 just need help with exactly where the O rings go ..can’t make a mistake now ..it’s not in the owner manual and during tear down some things got a little confused as to where they came out..
the three small Orings in the center of the base gasket 2 are thicker than the third one..
the 4 same size Orings in the center of the head gasket
and the 3 sane size Orings in the pic between the base and head gasket which 2 of them I believe go on the dowl pins on the base gasket not sure the third one
and for good measure the 12 larger Orings in the center of them all

where do these all go Im confused with no help searching google..

There are 12 the same which are tappet caps and inlet manifold to head
8 green ones go on NEW valve guides if you fit new
Two small same size go in the holes at end of head gasket where oil comes up
4 same size go on end caps on rocker cover
2 of the 3 the same are in base gasket round dowels with oil jets in
This leaves 2, one of them goes on the cam chain mechanism adjuster stud
Not sure about the last one

thanks for the reply…great info ..by order of elimination the 1 left over you’re talking about is the same size as the two that go over the dowel pins on the base gasket ..not sure either on that one

the one i was really confused on was the small single one that you said goes on the cam tensioner bolt through the back of the engine that also has a metal washer and nut.. It looks a little thinner than the one that came off the cam tensioner bolt but maybe that’s because it’s a knock off im hoping ..same diameter so Ill try it!!

Forgot to say the 4 big red ones go around the liners at base gasket

Just to add they are confusingly laid out.
The four shown in the cam chain tunnel of the head gasket are the ones for the rocker shaft and caps. (M6 x 3?)
Two of the three shown between the base and head gaskets are for the oil jets at the base. M11 x 2.5 I think.
Two of the three shown in the cam tunnel of the base gasket look to be the ones that actually go at the oil feed holes at the head gasket ends. And just to add that most are fitting thicker O rings here due to thicker head gaskets supplied and recommended by Hondaman (and me)
