Where to find different CB550k main jets?
« on: February 07, 2023, 11:10:10 AM »
Hello all, I am looking for outlets to try and find different sized CB550k0 main jets(not above #100).
I currently have 022a carburetors hooked up to a '78 cb550k motor, the bike runs moderately well after an engine rebuild but is VERY rich and I cannot run more than 60mph and have no top end power above 7000rpm. I live in Colorado at 5500ft and am switching from 4into4 exhaust to a delkevic long style 4into1 exhaust die to major exhaust leaks and holes(>2in holes). I also have the stock airbox distributor but with a single pod instead of the airbox. The carbs currently also have #100 mains and #38 idle jets with the needle 2 notches down from the top. They have been rebuilt fully(with emulsion tubes) and run rather well, just not above that 6000rpm mark or in 5th gear. Thus why I am trying to look for some smaller jets to lean out the mixture.

Have you checked out jetsrus.com?

What type of jets are you running? Aftermarket jets cause tuning issues.

Same jets as 500 and 400, not sure about 350

It sounds like you’re guessing about mixture.  Why not put the machine in the mode where you lack power, pull in the clutch and kill the ignition, then pull out the plugs and read the spark plug deposits to tell you what the combustion conditions are during your power loss?

It tells you if all carbs have the same issue as you proclaim and whether applying a correction to all carbs is the right path to take. What if only one or two cylinders losing power is the cause of your top end speed issue?

Did you use the needles from the kit? Try putting the stock needles back in. What clip are the needles set on?
