Help me decide on control switches
« on: February 15, 2023, 12:34:15 PM »
Im running adjustable handlebars so the wires wont be tucked in the bars, should I just get new stock switches for 100 bucks or should i get fancy push buttons even though wires cant be run inside the bars?

If i get reproduction switches I can get both for around 100 usd, push buttons are gonna be about 100 bucks per switch.

Why do some of you hate the m button?

Im Leaning towards stock style switches because this is going on a touring bike essentially, im worried about the longevity of momentary push buttons over long period of time.

The m-Button is nothing more than a single point to tie the switch wiring to, with a single wire then back to the mUnit. It must be installed inside steel bars to function, and you must run the mUnit for it to function.

As for longevity of momentary switches, they’re as durable if not more so than stock switches because there’s no current running through the connections to cause erosion or degradation of the contacts. They only need a ground sink.

ok, I like the revival cycles switches the most I think, about 120 for their 3 button switch. I see people go three button on the left giving an independent button per turn signal, and just a two button on the right, one for start and kill and the other for all three positions for the light.....Any reason i dont go with a three button switch on the right and have an independent start and kill button, instead of one doin it all?

found the thread discussing m buttons, those renard speedshop switches end up being 160 bucks more than then revival switches at 120 each. I see tho that renard makes a switch that bolts directly to the beringer levers which is what im going to run. Is 160 bucks worth having one less thing mounted to the handle bar....Instead of throttle housing-switch housing-brake lever, it would be throttle housing, brake lever with attached switch housing. Beringer offered an inside mount clamp for the brake lever that had a 10mm threaded hole to mount the mirror...I would lose that option if i chose the renard control switch since they mount in the same place....so I would have to get separate mirrors mounts...which would still force me to have 3 things mounted on the right side handle bar, those are around an additional 70 bucks for those....all pictured below.

also pictured is the beringer clamp/mirror mount i wouldn't be able to use if i used the renard switches.

edit: found beringer switches

Those plastic switches looks like they came off a Chinese scooter… if that’s the look you’re going for ???

As for the other ones, I’d check out how they wire up.

The button switches I’ve seen like the ones you posted had very light gauge wiring, not anything I’d think would stand the test of time and could easily break.

I don’t remember the actual switches I was looking at, that’s why I just say it’s something to look into  maybe the ones you’re looking at are fine.

I think the the less stuff strapped to your bars the better.
