1978 CB550K - Rear light relocation issue
« on: February 26, 2023, 06:52:02 AM »
Hey folks,

I recently removed the rear light + number plate platform from the rear of my CB, and mounted the indicators directly to the rear fender. I have retained the original wiring.

Now, my rear indicators are no longer working at all. I think from looking at the wiring diagram, that the rear light must have grounded the indicators - is this correct?

If someone could please advise me how I can get the lights operating again, that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

From memory, my ‘78 550K has a separate grond lead that went under the mounting nut for the stem that mounted them to the original grab bar? It used a large ring end, crimp d to the ground wire. Try bolting that under the mounting lug, under the fender?

To test first, clamp a jumper cable to your negative (-) lead on the battery and the lamp housing. If the turn signal starts working, you have no ground.

If you are using after market stems, and they are rubber, run the ground wire into the lamp housing and using a small ring end, attach it to one of the tiny screws that secure the lamp socket to the reflector.

How many wires did you connect to each of the signals?
What wire colors did you attach to at the wire harness?
