Hello from Indiana!
« on: March 09, 2023, 10:56:43 AM »
Good afternoon!

My name is Ben.  I have been riding for almost 30 years now.  I have had probably 15 bikes in that time, however, you never forget your first!  I was freshly 16 and had just gotten my motorcycle permit.

The bike was a 1976 cb550 I bought off a buddy's dad for $150.  It was rough around the edges, but ran and rode just fine.  I had to put new tires on it, and a buddy and I did a halfway decent paint job on it in his garage.  It had 21,000 miles on it when I bought it,  and almost 40,000 when I sold it 3 years later.  Like many others, I since wish I would have kept it,  but such is life.  I'll see if I can find a pic of it and post it in my profile.

I have been lazily looking for an original paint/original exhaust cb500/550 for a while now.  Has to be an early one with the two tone candy paint.  Orange or green are my favorites,  but we will see what comes along, I'm really in no big rush!

Right now,  the only bike I have is a 1976 KZ900 with a 1000 motor in it.  I went through a few years back and put the forks/swingarm/monoshock/wheels/brakes off of a 1989 ZX10 on it.  The motor is stock other than a pipe and a jet kit.  But at least now it handles and stops way better then it used to.

Welcome aboard Ben from northeast of you in NH.
Well I know of an all original green K0 CB500 here in NH that has just under 10,000 miles on it that a friend has in his mini museum that he'll be selling in May or June once he gets back and cleans the carbs and gets it fired up. I cleaned the rust from the tank last fall and then coated it with 2 stroke oil to protect it from rust. It sure is a purdy bike. He was thinking $10k was the number last fall when I talked last with him.

Wow, you guys are awesome!  I got busy with work and forgot to check back in on this. When I did, I had all kinds of replies!

It's crazy how much that old bike has stuck with me. Nostalgia is a crazy thing.

Newday777,   that bike is gorgeous, but out of my price range!!

Stev-o,  that one is pretty nice too,  thanks for linking it for me!!

I'm excited to look around on this forum, and I'll keep you posted when I end up finding something.
