RC 315 pics.
« on: March 09, 2023, 07:51:16 pm »
I checked out two RC 315 cams tonight, they are stamped on opposite ends, and have interesting numbers on them. Thought it might be worth a post. Ignore the dirt and fuzz, they were wrapped in oiled paper and a sock.
They should want 104* lobe centers.  The 38H may be the IO and EC degrees.

No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

The 89/90/59/K must be degrees at some crazy checking height that's not .040 or .050"  The 38* is close to .040" IO and EC numbers.  The cam specs did change over the years too. George and Per added data here.

It's odd, the intake lobe on the left cam on cylinder #4 has a taller lobe that hits the cam tower. The base circle is bigger and lobe is taller but the net lift is nearly the same as the other three intake lobes. Also, this cam must be the early grind with the slightly bigger lift. .365 vs .375
I guess a cam grinder might know how or why this happens.  It will be interesting to see the difference at the adjuster. I'd also guess the ramp angles might change duration?  Could this be an early research cam?  We will never know.

Odd indeed. It would be interesting to see if the area under the curve (duration) is the same…
It must’ve been a Monday or Friday grind…?

I like big lopes 😜

Here it is, in all of its glory. Maybe it was the first one after grinding a different cam?

😳😳😳

Only ever seen that on a comp cam.
It had the distributor end bearing journal + .010 larger than the cam bearings.
Turned it down with a tool post grinder and a dead center and it ran fine..
Stayed with Crane after that..

That cam is from my brother's collection so there likely won't be a cam holder that's clearanced for it, although it is a possibility since a few of the motors here were his.
