I found the problem, a bolt had backed off on the clutch and was hitting the outer cover.  I can't figure out how to post pics. No damage other than a bent bolt.
That'll make some rattling for sure. Glad it was not catastrophic.

All the bolts were loose, what do they torque too?

Not sure the torque specs but be sure to not to crack the plate, it's almost a right a passage to do so  ;D

Here's a good read on tightening the clutch lifter bolts so you don't snap the plate.

Try to get a shop manual, it lists all the torque values.

Newday. I had already read that post on tightening the plate down. Got everything back together, engine sounds good and nearly all my clutch noise went away. Amazing what tightening a few bolts will do. I`m going to resynch my carbs and I`m ready to roll. I appreciate all the help on this.
