People Watchin"
« on: April 27, 2014, 07:08:27 AM »
Sitting in Bob Evans the other day for breakfast. Couldn't help but feel sorry, for alot of older peo ple  that came in. Must limping, bent over, canes, walkers. Made me think that what I have today took a lot of hard work. Many many stories in older people. Factories didn't know about Ergonomics back then, just hard work. Nephew has a machine shop in old Pierce Arrow factory, while walking thru just couldn't help but think if these walls could talk. What great tales. So when I feel sorry for myself having three back surgeries, knee replacement, I figure other people may and are worse off than me.

Just a thought, happy riding this summer

Yeah people watchin doesn't cost you anything. Free entertainment. A lot of times I think to myself this person or persons must not have a mirror in their the house because if they had checked themself out in front of it their is no way in H#$% they could think they looked good and how they could go out in public looking like that and wearing that outfit :o And I agree with you Bob and their is alot for older people and some not so old that their over all health is so bad that it really humbles you to see them like that and makes you realize just how good you really have it and to be thankful and feel blessed with your life.

I often ask my wife if I look as bad as some of the folks I see.  I am still healthy enough to referee high school football and basketball and except for this recent bout with bladder cancer I am quite healthy.  I even have all my teeth.

Like you say , what stories that could be told....you know , if you asked one of these  warn down, old, broken geezers for a story, because you would be interested, and would like to share some time and a cup of coffee with someone who may have seen things that you've only read about.... My guess is that you'll have a new older friend that would be glad to share their experiences. After all, the first hand accounts of our history is lost with each passing member of the generations before.
Perhaps they were dapper at one time, and it just doesn't interest them as it may be just hard enough to survive each day in their condition but, a recollection of a time in their life that they would care to share with you , may just be enough to make this day more bareable for them, and both educational and entertaining for you.
Never be afraid to strike up a conversation with them , as long as you have the time, you may be amazed  by what you hear.

I prefer watching younger people. Preferably female, good looking, scantily dressed, etc. Might make me feel old but I don't seem to mind  ;D

Around my neck of the woods it's hard to tell the difference between the ladies and the cows so there's no point in looking. If it has a bell on it, leave it alone.
We do find people watching to be a sporting event when going outta town. However reflective sunglasses is a must when your lady comes along with ya or the ride home is gonna be a long one.

I like people watching. Sometimes nice to just go to the park, sit and smoke my pipe... watch the world go by...

Regarding old people and their lives/stories... I work in an Allied Health profession, and I am constantly speaking with the elderly, especially about the jobs they used to have. Some fantastic stories have come from those intake interviews. Some tend to ramble, but I have the time. :)
