1975 CB750 K Kick Starter
« on: May 11, 2023, 04:57:00 PM »
I'm dangerously close to starting this beauty up after the motor rebuild. While I was sitting on her daydreaming; I thought why not kick her over. I pulled the kick lever out; put my foot on the kicker pedal and pushed down on it. The motor turned over but the kick lever stayed a the bottom of it's stroke. I had to pull the lever up. I tried it a couple of times with the same result. Fells like a tight seal on the shaft preventing it from returning or like I forgot the return spring. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

Well, I can offer these 2 experiences:
1. It is possible to install the clutch cover with the kicker spring not in the right position (i.e., not wound up and tucked over the nub on the case inside).
2. It is also possible to have a broken kicker spring. Rare, I've only seen 1 like that, but the hooked end on the shaft was cracked and broke off, leaving the little curved piece lying in the bottom of the clutch cover.
