I want to get a new phone/service;I have Metro now.
« on: June 21, 2023, 10:47:15 AM »
Hi,I have an old Metro 2018' Samsung Galaxy J2 4G  phone..  ::) which is a good size(5.75"x3")for me;had it for 5 yrs. now.
I have the pay as I go per month now;how's Mint Mobile ?
Metro was bought by T Mobile so I want to switch and get a new android phone.
I don't want a huge phone:I like where it fits inside a pocket easily.
I don't know much about how the new phones work;4G or 5G.
Any advice guys?  thanks,Bill

If you want privacy from a cell phone.  Get an apple iphone.

T mobile plans are some of the more affordable options.

I'm also considering outright purchasing a less expensive Samsung phone 5G that will have basic features and at least 15GB for apps. I would then connect that to a service provider.
I don't need a great phone, just a good one that's a 2022'+ model which will allow me to surf the web and forums.
I like clear pictures and GPS when needed.

If you wait for a promotion - they often give away surplus phones.  Might even be 5g compatible.
The "switch to" or "start a new plan" bonuses come around often.

Are you talking 15 gb of memory or 15 gb data plan?
The operating system on my android is 22 gigabytes.
But 15/gb data per month is manageable, so long as you don't doom scroll facebook or binge watch videos.
Often the cost savings of a lower plan vs unlimited is negated by fees.  Like $30 invoicing fee assessed by verizon.  I personally can't stand having my phones core features compromised by data restrictions.  So a larger data pool is nice to have.

My galaxy J2 has 12GB storage that's available for apps,etc. I would like 15GB or more(if necessary?)storage for apps.

The promotion you mentioned,it usually is part of a plan?
I'm considering purchasing my own phone,then finding a provider,like Mint,etc.

Yes, the promos on hardware are most often what the stores rely on to entice people.
Theres not much advantage to the bring your own phone plans.
If anything they're harder for the sales person to handle.  I tried to take my boost mobile phone to t mobile, and was unable to merge.  Even with boost and t mobile being in cahoots at the time.

That said, boost infinite is available online.  The monthly plan is as cheap as they get.  And they'll sell you a Samsung outright if thats what you want.  I'm not a boost mobile fanboy.  But their phone has served as my motorcycles gps and radio for 3 years now.

I've had an iPhone for many years [different models] and would not consider another phone, but a lot of people like android.

I think you would be better off checking deals online than asking here, unless someone just happened to get a new phone and plan. My wife handles the phone bill, I dont even know what we pay?

I have had Mint mobile for about 6 months and it has been good.coverage maps will tell you if your area where you travel is covered. The 15G plan is affordable and they were running an intro special doubling the time for what you paid... Had a little difficulty getting my number switched from Verizon but it worked out. Intend to stay with them.
My only concern is T-Mobile data breeches which have been frequent the past 2 years.
