I had a bachelor party. A guy there went on a test ride on an old type sportster with the shift and brake opposite of a honda. Long story short, he crashed into a chain link fence surrounding a storm channel service entrance. Bent rear wheel, no shifter or clutch lever the injured party was going to truck driving school the next day. He refused a hospital visit while running to get the car I stepped in a hole and sprained my ankle twice.
The next day I was at the hospital with the guy that wrecked, I did limp to the hospital and got married. For better and worse. It's been both.

Congratulations tomorrow!
We're only at 44+ years. :)

At the Peoria Honda shop where I worked in 1970 we sold a 750 to a guy one Friday afternoon, taking his Bonneville 650 in on trade.
The next Saturday afternoon, he came back, pissed as could be, frazzled so badly he almost couldn't talk. He wanted to "untrade" and "get my bike back". He said he could not figure out what gear he was in, how to stop, and was forever starting out in "some tall gear" and he "just wanted out" of the Honda. I don't know what the salesman worked out with the guy, but on the following Tuesday (that was the next day we were open) the rider came back as we rolled his now tuned-up and oil-changed Bonny back outside for his. He rode off without a word!
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Congrats Don!
That is quite an accomplishment!

I bought a beat up '69 Vespa when I lived in Bangkok. After getting it running and road worthy, I realized that I would die driving it. Not only was I having to drive on the wrong side of the road, but the controls were backward as well.

I had a situation where a car cut me off and my instincts kicked in....unfortunately, it was my Honda instincts, and I just about flipped over the front of the thing.

I sold it the following weekend.

I just called my best man who lives in so. cal. His memory of that night was a little fuzzy, but he did remember us putting the wrecked sportster in the trunk of his 64 Impala. Owner of the bike was about to be an unexpected Dad, he needed the $$ and the rider didn't make it to truck driving school that was already paid for. I'm not sure, but I think the rider bought the wrecked and uninsured bike and kept it.

Congrats Don…
Yeah, I won’t be riding a bike with controls reversed from my normal…I would die.

Congratulations!  That's a funny story.

After a while one gets used to riding bikes with different controls.  I have bikes that shift on the left and bikes that shift on the right.  Moreover, the ones that shift on the right have different shift patterns: up for first, and down for first.  Somehow I'm able to ride them all with no issues, and have never reached for the wrong lever in an emergency situation.

Thanks for the kind words, we roughly estimated we've eaten 30,000 meals together. No wonder I'm fat.
