74K 78F New/Old Project Reboot Advice
« on: September 02, 2023, 12:18:30 PM »
Hi All!

I just excavated an old project from the garage that I built 20 years ago out of a few bikes (74K with 78F swingarm and fork, and 81cb900 brakes) I scavenged from a salvage yard. I'm finally ready to strip it down to the ground and do a full rebuild. Anyone have any leads on an aftermarket swingarm I can use to firm up the handling? Any other advice on best upgrades and what to avoid as I make my way down the restomod rabbit hole? There are so many bolt on aftermarket parts for CB's now that it's hard not to go ham and throw handfuls of cash out the window on all the bells and whistles.

Thanks!

What year is your F? (Please, when asking for help, include the year and model each new thread you make so there isn't confusion introduced)
Unfortunately there isn't much in the way of availability for new aftermarket swingarms. Maybe from Japan???
Where are you located?

Apologies, my first post. I'll review the title. The bike is a 1974K with fork and swingarm from a 1978F. At the time those were the parts of the two bikes that were intact and I could salvage, but thinking about maybe reverting back to a K rear with aluminum or box channel swingarm and more robust fork. Thanks for sharing the forum posting protocol

An aluminum Dresda style boxed swing arm would be a candidate. Higher quality shocks would also be noticeable for improved handling. And catridge emulators with single rate springs up front.

Thanks for the suggestion. Only aftermarket swingarms I've found are on webike for a small fortune: https://japan.webike.net/products/21983410.html
https://japan.webike.net/products/21983411.html

Not entirely clear what the difference is between the the type 1 and type 2, but pictures seem to show a k1-k6 pillion peg frame style. Anyone you know have experience with these swingarms?

Got the emulators locked and loaded with racetech linear springs, so all set up front.

Hi Mastro, we used an 06 ZX10R swing arm & forks on a recent build.

Removed the mono-shock mounting from the strengthening brace & welded outboard shock mounts near the axel.

Bike handles & steers fine.

Cheers M

Ask the guys in the performance section
George gschuld and Bill Benton and others have been around the racing circuit and would be helpful for this type of information.

You will need a couple more posts to be able to pm members.  Start with reading through and a post in this thread of your intentions, it's from 2015 so you might get some reposes and also start a new topic thread on your bike there in the high performance section. 😉
